Baking Bread

Michael enjoying his snack.

Michael and his peanut butter and honey on fresh bread.

Sliced bread.

Fresh out of the oven, cooling on rack.

Second rise.

Split dough between three loaf pans (greased).

After the first rise.

After all ingredients have been mixed.

I love to make homemade bread. I feel like I know what's in it (all natural organic and no chemicals) and feel better about my family eating it. I usually make about a batch a week or 3 loaves. Here's pictures of my bread today. I use a recipe out of the cookbook: "Where's Mom Now That I Need Her?" - which I believe my Uncle Brent got for me several years ago. It's been a great reference.

Here's the recipe:

(I also added 1/2 Cup of Millet in this batch - I usually do half wheat and half white flour)

Quick and Delicious Bread

3/4 C granulated sugar
3 C warm water
2 pkgs yeast
1/3 C cooking oil
1 egg, beaten
3 t. salt
8 C flour
Combine sugar, warm water, and yeast in large mixing bowl; let stand 10 minutes. Combine cooking oil and egg and add to yeast mixture. Stir in salt and 3 C of flour; mix well. Stir in additional 3 C of flour; mix well. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft, sticky dough. cover bowl and allow dough to rise until double in bulk; punch down, turn dough over in bowl, and allow to rise, covered, until double in bulk again - about 45 minutes. Shape dough into three loaves and put in greased loaf pans; cover and allow to rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes, or until loaves are lightly browned. Brush crusts with melted butter to soften. (this last step I usually skip)
